The Power of Dreams

Nov 10, 2007
Visualisation is a key component in being able to manifest what you want in life. When you can visualise or imagine what you want in great detail it goes along way towards helping you to achieve your dream or goal. You want to be able to see, hear and feel what it would be like when your dream is realised.

Michael Flatley, producer, director, choreographer and originally star of Lord of the Dance, said that when he was a boy he was often told off for day dreaming. When he creates his elaborate step dance productions, now seen by millions of fans worldwide, Flatley says he is living his dream.

Now here's the paradox. Many people are actually very good at visualising what they want and, in their minds, they relive their dreams over and over again. It almost feels like the real deal. Until, one day they realise that they will never attain their dream and then it starts to fade. They think about it with less frequency and eventually the dream, which is no longer nourished, dies.

You see they never truly believed in their dream. In reality it was just fantasy. They never allowed their dream to become a goal that they could aim for. But why? Because they thought that in achieving their dream they might be disappointed. The dream might not be what they imagined. And well, if they just dreamt about it then no effort was required on their part to bring their dream into fruition.

"If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember this whole thing was started by a mouse."
Walt Disney

Now, if you turn that dream into a goal and start striving towards it miracles can happen. Provided, that is, you choose a goal that is worthy of you. You have to plan. You have to take action and above all keep believing in your dream while you work towards your goal. Joel Barker said:

"Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world."

Walt Disney certainly changed the world. He made it a happier and more fun place for adults and children alike. And here's something remarkable. Walt Disney actually died a few years prior to the opening of his Walt Disney World dream project in Orlando, Florida. Yet, can you argue that he didn't achieve his dream? His dream was more than just fantasy. The spirit of his goal inspired others to continue to manifest it when he was no longer physically capable of doing so.

When you strive towards your goal there are several possible outcomes. You may not achieve your goal and, if this is the case, it is highly likely that your values and your goal were not in alignment. You may achieve something other than your goal which you ultimately determine is even better than the goal you originally set. Alternatively, you may achieve something that goes beyond your wildest dreams.

And so how do you avoid potential disappointment? First of all ensure that your dreams and values are aligned. Secondly, maintain balance in your life so that you are not so blinded by working towards your goal that you forget to live and truly appreciate this amazing world we live in.

"You cannot see the movement of the clouds unless you look up."

At the entrance of Disney World is a plaque which says:

"Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy."

Walt Disney's dream was to create a world of fantasy from which we could escape reality. To achieve your dreams you have to transform them into goals and take action so that your goals become reality.

You have the power to make your dreams come true. Turn your dreams into goals and then live your dream.
