How to Set the Budget for Your Wedding?

Nov 18, 2007
The budget is most probably the first thing you need to consider when you are planning for your wedding. Your budget will affect all the details of your planning. If you are on a tight budget, you may need to go for discount items when you make your orders. On the contrary, you may go for some more luxury options if you have a lot of budget. Whether you have a tight budget or not is not important. The essential point is that you need to set a budget which is realistic and at the same time you will feel comfortable with.

In fact, you cannot just think of a number and make it as your budget. As a reference, an average can cost up to USD20,000 or even more. Of course there are also ways to make it less expensive. The point is that you cannot set it just by guessing. You will put yourself in a difficult situation if you set the budget just by guessing. You need to work a little bit and do some research in order to set a realistic budget. As we may be well aware that well begun is half done. You should plan our budget well so that you will probably plan your wedding well.

First of all, you should try to gather information of the items you will need or order for your wedding. Some of these items are invitation, favor, venue, dresses, catering for your reception, transportation and so on. You need to make of list of items so that you can easily estimate the expenses.

When your list is completed, you can do a little on the web. You will search for the average prices of the items. You can visit online shops and also ask for opinion or experiences from wedding forums or blogs. You may even visit local stores to gather the information you need. Then it will be just like a game of filling in the blanks. You fill the average prices in your list and you will then get a rough idea of how much you will need to spend.

If you find that the estimation you get is not quite affordable, you may need to cut the cost or the budget. To do this, you need to rank the items in your list. You have to ask yourself which item is more important. You will certainly keep the budget for the more important items. On the contrary, you may cut the cost of the items which are less essential. For instance, if you think the wedding invitation is less important. You may try to cut the cost of it and decide to print them yourself so that you can leave money for other items.

Even if you find the budget not affordable, you may have another option if you do not want to cut the costs of the items. However, this option is not always recommended. You can seek for wedding loans if you do not want to cut the costs. But you will have to be prepared to repay after your wedding. This may not be a good idea if you can be sure that you can do that. However, you may also need to consider if you need extra money when you start your new live after marriage.
