American, Western Feminists Prove There is No 'International Sister' in Sisterhood

Nov 22, 2007
While a 19 year old Saudi Arabian woman receives a six month sentence with 200 lashes for being gang raped, American and western feminist groups remain silent. This bizarre silence of women's rights groups reminds of us similar non-stances these groups took on human and women's rights violations in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This abandoning of "Sisters" springs from the collective thinking that all societies are equal and we should not criticize another culture simply because it is not our own. In fact, we shouldn't say a damn thing, regardless of whom or what or where.

Whatever the radical feminist agenda is, it is not about international sisterhood. Sorry International Sisters, you are on your own. The facts in this case are very widely known after CNN and other news feeds broke the story. What is odd is that even a U.S. Government State Department spokesman Sean McCormack stated the punishment was "surprising" and "astonishing". Hello, girls?

This shocked reaction is not just because the Secretary of State is female. American males are shocked too. There will always be a few male redneck Bubbas and Weirdo Fundamentalists that will say a woman should obey her man or he should whack her. But pardon me ma'am, most American men do not think that a woman that was gang raped should be also lashed or men should beat women to get cultural compliance. I'm certain right now the Saudi public relations experts, trained in the U.S., are desperately seeking a way to put a better spin on the case. Let's hope they come up with a resolution.

The reality is Saudi women, can't vote, drive, travel, get surgery or just about anything else without the permission of a man. We all remember the smuggled video out of Taliban led Afghanistan where male enforcers would strike women on the street with a cane if they did anything that was not approved, such as publicly expose too much of their eyeballs . Girls were not allowed in school. Women could not vote.

In the not too distant past U.S. women could not vote either. It took many years and the efforts of many courageous women to bring about that change. Women, the U.S. and we men were better off. I'm sure many of those women back then would be 'surprised and astonished' at their legacy standing idly by while atrocities are committed against women anywhere on earth. After all, it's not just a people thing; it's a woman thing, no? It's not just a Western Hemisphere or European girl thing, right ladies?

But hey, we guys think we can be understanding as well.

But according to many in these women's movements we men just don't understand. We just can't get around our male prejudices and understand the female perspective. Maybe that's because we men don't feel that brotherhood like women feel with their sisterhood. It's true I don't hear too many men talking about brotherhood and men's rights these days. Most men I know are too busy working.

Women need to understand that many men, confused and not, support what is just, including not beating women with canes or giving lashes as punishment. But I would think that in this instance the outcry from organized women's groups would be loudest and longest...it's not a question of oil here, right ladies?

Where are the feminist protests? Where are the first world sisters when their international sisters desperately need their support?

I just don't understand but that's not surprising. After all we men really don't understand women. Most men would probably agree with that statement. But this really isn't a question of men's inability to understand women. This is a question of respect, human dignity and human rights.

And hey gals, shouldn't it be really irritating that a male wrote his article? Because you don't you just know how we men are just so really confused, awkward and impossible with those sensitive concepts like "Sisterhood"?
