Do You Need A Website Designer?

Nov 27, 2007
One of the first decisions you, as new internet business owner, must make is whether you will build your own website or if you will hire a professional website designer. Either option is a good, but the best answer to that question will really depend on your personal situation.

Here are some points to consider when choosing a website designer.

If you choose to hire a website designer, you don't have to worry about learning how to build your own website. You can simply tell your website designer what you want and it's done. You will then have more time to devote to other more important internet business tasks. However, you may not realize that technology advancements today have made it possible to build websites without the need to have any programming skills whatsoever. You can find plenty of website building tools that utilize a basic point-and-click technology and have a very user-friendly interface. When looking for a website builder, check to see if it has additional features that you can install on your own or pay a small fee to have the provider do it for you.

Another thing to consider is the website designer's schedule. You will probably not be the only client the website designer is working for. If you build the website yourself, you can instantly make any changes that you desire. Your turnaround time with the website designer will not be as quick. This can cause a delay in the deployment of your business plans. In addition, it will cost you money for any work the designer does so your business expenses will increase.

You can consider building your own website and only consult with a website designer when necessary such as when you need to incorporate special features to your website. This allows you to keep your costs down. However, keep in mind that the advanced website builders on the market today have many special features already available for you to download and incorporate into your design such as blogs, shopping carts and forums.

The bottom line is that if you have a moderate budget and do not want to get involved with website design then a website designer is for you. However, if you need to keep costs down and are willing to try the very advanced but easy to use website builders available on the market today, then build your own website.
