Nov 28, 2007
We deal a lot with people most of the time. When we run a business or working in our offices, we are practically learning the process of working and dealing with people. We build relationships to work on achieving goals to achieve success in developing strong bonds among our loved ones and peers.

In building relationships to work with a team, it can be a real interesting experience for some of us. Similar to other experiences, building relationships in a team is a learning process. We continually learn to improve in building cohesion in the team. Team with great spirit and strong team bonding have greater level of success in achieving their goals. For example, it can be noted entrepreneurs who runs successful businesses builds strong team around them.

Let us take a look at the following lessons on the right focus in building strong relationships in a team to build success. The first lesson in building strong relationship with team members is team members must be clear of the team objectives. We can witness a team downfall occurring when the team members are not clear of their roles and objectives for the team. Such incidence leads to confusion and frustration among team members. Thus, we must not neglect the importance of clear objectives and roles that must be communicated clearly to the team.

Second significant lesson in building strong relationships in a team are the team must be very clear of the objectives to achieve success in the team must come first followed by the team and individuals needs. With such clear focus, team bonding will tend to prevail more as team members will be more motivated. Team members will focus on working towards achieving goals as a team rather than building own individualistic purpose. Such focus also prevents selfishness instill in the individual.

Third significant lesson in building strong relationships in a team is to ensure that team members understand the importance in being accountable for their actions. All team members including the team leader must ensure in taking responsibilities for their actions in the team successes and failures.

For example, John, the team leader, refuses to listen to his team members opinions on improving their working conditions. At the end of the year, the team did not produce results and John started blaming his team members for the lack of results. An important lesson here is the team leader, John in this case, must take the ownership that he is partly or wholly responsible for the team failures and successes. He must realize that success is a team effort and owned up his part to the team for the failure in achieving results.

From the above, we can learn that building strong relationships in a team involves being clear communication of the roles and objectives in the team, understanding that objectives comes first before team and individual needs and being accountable for own actions in team successes and failures.
