Nature in Framed Landscape Panoramas

Nov 29, 2007
Landscapes have been a popular subject for painters, photographers and other artists for centuries. Landscapes most often highlight the natural features of geography. Some artists and photographers will combine the natural beauty of Mother Nature and man made structures that come together to create a certain image. As a genre, landscape panoramas are generally considered to include images that include land, sea and sky.

As with most panoramas, landscapes provide a wide viewing angle of a scene or setting. The image is recreated from the perspective of the artist. Most humans have a field of view of approximately one hundred and eighty degrees. This field of view is certainly a factor in how humans perceive the world around them. So the artist and photographer see what most of us would see when looking at a similar image. Panoramas are a way of capturing this wide field of vision, making it easy to see why panoramic images, especially landscape images are so popular.

Included in the landscape genre are seascapes. Seascapes can differ in a substantial way from the landscape panorama. Oceans are usually devoid of surface features and can appear to some folks as vast empty spaces. For others, the openness of the ocean can provide a calming view of what is seven tenths of the worlds surface. Many artists will use another physical feature or man made structure to add some visual relief to the image.

Local weather conditions can add to or even become the primary subject of a landscape panorama. The beauty of rainbows or the ominous clouds of an approaching storm can add color and drama to an otherwise stoic landform like a prairie or seascape. Capturing the power of a lighting storm in a wide angle viewing image is a very popular subject for many photographers.

The snowcaps of a nearby mountain range, reflected in the mirror of clear mountain lake is a striking sight. This type of image would hardly be in need of additional imagery. Capturing an image like this through an average wide angle lens would result in visually distorted view. Depending on the type of lens, the image may appear to have a fisheye quality that would differ from the image seen through the naked eye.

By pushing the limits of equipment, lighting, film quality and processing, photographers have discovered new and exciting ways to create photographic images. The advent of digital photography has raised picture taking to an entirely new level. Digital technology has made the creation of panoramic images much easier. Even the invention of the airplane provided photographers with opportunities to give us images that were impossible to capture before the invention of powered flight.

Creators of landscape panoramas will most likely stitch together successive shots forming a single image. Through advancements in digital photography and digital editing software, images with very little visual distortion can be created. The final product will more accurately mirror what would be seen with the naked eye.

The process of stitching or blending successive photographic images is not new and dates back to the early days of film photography. The beauty of digital photography and digital photo editing is that the photo artist can manipulate the image on a very small scale, often down to the pixel level. The result is an almost seamless image with almost not visual distortion.

The power and beauty of nature have always captured the imagination of artists. Framed landscape panoramas are a great way to share the vision of the artist. Whether purchased for you or as a gift, framed panoramas can be found on many quality websites.
