Nutritional supplements nowadays do not always come from chemical mixtures and combinations but they can as well have been developed from natural plant herbs that boast of therapeutic and medicinal properties. The term herbal may lead you to think all natural and make you believe that nothing can go wrong in taking these kinds of nutritional supplements. This is a myth.

Herbal nutritional supplements have more or less undergone some processes too and can also cause certain side effects. It is still important to consider seeking medical advice before taking these supplements. Just because a particular herbal nutritional supplement has generated good results for one person does not mean that it is generally good for everyone.

Our bodies and health systems are distinct and uniquely different so it is important to find one that best suits your needs. Further, it is vital to follow the prescribed instructions and take these nutritional supplements at proper dosages. Here are a few of the herbal nutritional supplements that are available in the market today.

Alfalfa

Boasting of eight essential amino acids, the leaves of the alfalfa plant has been a popular herbal supplement since the sixth century until today. Affluent in calcium, potassium, protein, vitamin E, vitamin K, magnesium and other minerals, the alfalfa is mainly used to treat urinary tract infections and kidney stones. It basically works for your kidney, bladder, liver and pituitary glands; detoxifying and protecting them from acquiring health disorders. Alfalfa may also be used in treating arthritis, hay fever, asthma, diabetes and jaundice.

Aloe Vera

The use of aloe vera dates back to as early as 1500 BC with the Egyptian healers. Aloe vera herbal supplements contain anti-inflammatory fatty acids that targets to protect and to aid in the functions of the colon, stomach and intestines. This is why the aloe vera is commonly taken by people with ulcers, intestinal infections, inflammatory bowel diseases, constipation, candida and digestive tract disorders. To accelerate wound healing and to reduce inflammation are the main reasons why aloe vera is generally used. Other benefits include treating burns, scrapes, skin ulcers, insect bites and stings, acne and eczema.

Chamomile

People who go through nerve-racking hectic lifestyles combat stress with chamomile tea. Proven to carry out the same effects as anti-anxiety drugs, drinking chamomile nutritional tea supplements are more preferred by many. This herb not only works to relieve stress but it can help insomniac people get that much longed good night sleep. Chamomile is also known to help with certain stomach ailments namely heartburns, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulitis. This herb is particularly well liked by women as it can relieve the pain brought about by disturbing menstrual cramps.

Ginseng

Probably the most famous of all the Chinese herbs, the ginseng plant has been mainly developed to be an herbal nutritional supplement. Usually ginseng herbal supplements are taken in as tea. This herb is recognized to relieve stress, enhance memory, improve the immune system and raise energy and performance levels. In relieving stress, it not only reduces mental but also physical fatigue as it contains Zinc, B-6 and vitamin A that aids in the function of the immune system. Studies show that ginseng is relatively safe however, one cannot be too careless. Increased dosages may cause mood changes, loss of appetite, nervousness and dizziness.
