A Lesson In Gratitude

Dec 6, 2007
How many times have you thanked someone else today? It's very common to go for days without saying thank you to anyone these days, but it's also a sad state of affairs. When we forget to be grateful for the things we have and the things that others do for us, we can reduce our chances of gaining more from our life. In a sense, when we lose the ability to thank, we begin to lose the ability to take things into our life.

Where Did We Lose the Gratefulness?

There are a number of theories as to why we have seemingly lost our ability and our desire to thank others. For whatever reason, some of us believe that being thankful means that we are agreeing that someone else is somehow better than we are. And this then means that we are somehow lesser. Where this false idea began is anyone's guess, but it seems to be connected to the all too present competition that is happening in today's society.

Everyone is beginning to feel that they need to 'win' at everything in order to be a good person. If anything seems to diminish the greatness of our abilities, we try to avoid it. But in the end, we are hurting ourselves.

Some others feel that saying thanks is unnecessary as people should realize that we are thankful without our having to say anything. But while this is understandable, don't you feel special when someone special in your life recognizes something that you do? Why not spread that feeling to others?

Each time we fail to recognize something in our lives, we're not only diminishing the other person, but we're also saying that we're not worthy of receiving things. When you're trying to bring new things into your life, this is not the best attitude to have.

Thanking for More

When we recognize that we are lucky and that we are receiving things (both physical and non-physical), we aren't just being nice, we're inviting more into our lives. Have you ever noticed that when you thank someone for doing something that they are more likely to do something more for you? That's because they feel good for having made you happy. It's not a competition and it's not a judgment on the person that received something.

In terms of the laws of attraction, the more you profess your gratitude toward the things you have and the things you receive, the more you are encouraging the universe to send you more.

Each day, you should be sure to thank people who give you things, even if they're small things. At the end of each evening, it can help to write down five things that you're grateful for too so that you take time to really notice how blessed you ALREADY are.

And the 'great' part about being grateful is that the more you thank others, the more you will notice in your life. You are richer than you realize, be thankful for it.
