House Fire Sources And Preventions

Dec 9, 2007
Fires can start within a home a number of varying ways and learning as much as one could concerning fire safety within the house is pertinent in preventing that from occurring.

Preparing food in the kitchen brings the biggest amount of risk, however since most people need to do this to get by because they are not able to afford to eat fast food often, it needs to be done. Safety is crucial and that means that you ought never leave food upon the stove alone in the kitchen. In case you need to go, turn the power off or make sure someone will watch over it while you are gone.

Portable heaters that you use around the winter may also present a substantial amount of risk. These should never be placed around couches, drapes, or any other flammable item. Something else you may want to consider is the fact extension cables should not be used with devices that use a lot of electricity or put off a large amount of heat. Electric blankets are in that group along with electric heaters and if you use a regular household extension cord with them, they can melt.

If you like cigarettes, that might be another possible cause of fire in the house. When you have to dump out the ashes, make sure everything in the tray is entirely put out. Something you should never do is smoke when you are in bed. Do not allow yourself become too comfortable on a sofa, since you may doze off and dropping the cigarette, either on the chair, bed, the carpet, or your clothes.

Heated blankets are a huge help, however the bad thing about these is that people tend to leave them on all night while they are resting instead of simply using them to heat up the other blankets. If you like to use electric blankets to help heat up your bedding during the winter, please turn them off after your blankets and sheets are warm. Beds have been caught on fire many times by people who sleep under electric blankets while they are still turned on and this is completely preventable simply by turning the blanket off or at the very least, turning it to its lowest setting. Never leave one on its high setting and never allow it to be stepped on, since the coils inside are damaged easily and can short out.
