Myths and Facts About Spreading Genital Herpes

Jan 6, 2011
For lots of people clinically determined to have genital herpes each year, there are millions more who have been afflicted with the sexually transmitted disease, undoubtedly to them.

Genital herpes is brought on by the most contagious herpes simplex virus which influences the genital area, with break outs frequently also occurring on the face, creating cold sores. It can also cause whitlows, which breakout on the hands.

Yet misinformation is unrestrained about the virus, of which there are two strands - HSV-2 and the more familiar HSV-1. There are few of the most familiar facts and myths related to herpes.

Myth: Sex is off limits after a revealed infection.

Fact: An afflicted person can still have sex, but it is considerable to refrain from sexual contact when you have symptoms, of oral or genital sores. Just in case you are asymptomatic (you don't develop any symptoms, but the virus is still present on the skin), you can still be contagious and so it is necessary to use condoms. Antiviral medications control symptomatic and asymptomatic conditions and medications such as HSV-zero has been proven to lessen asymptomatic HSV falling by as much as 80-90%.

Myth: Possessing herpes is a indication that you are promiscuous.

Fact: Herpes is very common and can involve anyone who has ever had sex. The number of sexual couples is not a factor in having the disease as, in contrast to other STDs, genital herpes lasts indefinitely and can be carried for many years, perhaps for entire life. Every time that you have unsafe sex, even with a loved one, you elevate your possibility for all STDs.

Myth: Cold sores and herpes are two totally different things.

Fact: Cold sores appear as a form of herpes, and like herpes cold sores root from the herpes simplex virus. If you get oral-genital sex from person who has got a cold sore, this virus can cause you genital herpes. The two sorts of the herpes virus can infect any zone of the body if not medicated. Only just touching a blister or herpes sore is more than enough for the infection to spread to other body parts.

Myth: You can get genital herpes from toilet seats and other non-living devices.

Fact: The genital herpes virus dries out when it is exposed to air, and is rather vulnerable. The microorganisms that lead to genital herpes can't live apart from the human body on a place like a toilet seat for very long. There have been no confirmed claims of genital herpes transmission from a toilet seat.
