When You're No Longer An Anonymous Alcoholic, It's Time For AA Meetings Online

Dec 20, 2007
Your secret is out when people don't serve you drinks or invite you to the pub anymore. It's nothing personal, but they worry you'll sink into a stupor for days. Their concern is understandable - you're no longer an anonymous alcoholic.

What? Me, An Alcoholic?

Alcoholics don't admit they're in a pickle. No, they don't have a problem and yes, they can quit anytime. These denials ride on their fear of being stigmatized. They may toy with the idea of getting help from the nearest AA rehabilitation center, or joining AA meetings online. However, they keep in procrastinating until the day comes when they don't recognize themselves in the mirror anymore.

If you have been struggling with a drinking problem, promising to quit the next day and the next but continue binging, you're not alone. Thousands of men and women, young and old, have gone through this hellish experience. Of the thousands, some admit their problem and seek help, while others continue to wallow in misery and continue to self-destruct. Many have gotten out of the grip of alcoholism through support sessions like those AA meetings online and offline.

It does take time before you and other alcohol junkies admit you're really sick and need medical help. Here are some danger signs when you're ready to check into rehab:

1. You can't think of anything else but the fix you get from a shot of scotch.

2. You've been repeatedly kicked out of jobs for repeated tardiness, absences and sloppy work output.

3. Your wife has become a shrew and keeps on nagging about your drinking, or your marriage is on the brink of divorce because of your violence and neglect of your duties as partner and parent.

4. All your money goes for bottles and bottles of whiskey instead of food and rent.

5. You borrow and steal just to drink.

6. You start mixing rubbing alcohol with sugar to get a fix when there's nothing else around.

7. People gently insinuate you've got a drinking problem and encourage you to join AA meetings online.

You can't accept that you have a drinking problem but deep inside you, you promise yourself you will not touch a drink. However, before you even finish your sentence, you're already downing a bottle of beer for breakfast. But you are not, by your standards, an ALCOHOLIC.

Help for Alcoholics

Sometimes it takes a tragedy before an alcoholic admits the problem. Why wait for disaster to strike? If you're struggling to get out of this addiction, you can't do it alone. Tell your mate or your best friend you need help and you're willing to go through detoxification and rehabilitation. This is the best thing you can do for yourself after years of self-destruction and self-doubt.

Seek out support groups and join AA meetings online to get back on track. Learn how people grappled with the same addiction. Their success stories or their struggles will help you exorcise your own demons. Getting out of the habit is not that easy. You have to summon all your mental will to quit.

AA meetings online are extensions of rehabilitation programs designed to help alcoholics along the stages of their recovery towards self-respect and getting their lives back. If you're no longer an anonymous alcoholic, you need help and fast.
