Contact Lens Disclaimers And Warnings

Dec 25, 2007
When ordering contact lens through the internet, it is always a good policy to review the contact lens disclaimers and warnings that are posted on the site. Many people do not realize that there are jurisdictional boundaries established by retailers that use the internet to establish a storefront, even though the internet is a computer network that reaches consumers around the globe.

The laws of the State in which the business originates would be the place where someone would have to go to file claims in court, and if the buyer is in another location, then they would be expected to pay all expenses to travel to that location if they chose to take the company to court. The disclaimers are meant to advise customers of their rights and establish rights for the business as well. When customers purchase contact lens online, they must understand what they agreeing to just by using the site.

One of the most common warnings that consumers will find when ordering contact lens online is that the customer should follow the advice of their eye care specialist at all times. This advice could pertain to the care and use of contact lenses and all of the choices that are available to them. This type of advice is sound because there are thousands of brands for and knowing which manufacturers offer the best selection can save a consumer money all around.

Most contact lens ordering sites will feature disclaimers that are meant to convey safety precautions to the consumer. The site is simply a retailer and is not to be considered an entity that would be able to offer competent medical advice. Instead, the disclaimers offer a word of caution to all users of their site so that they can make informed decisions about the products that are sold through them. A customer will feel very comfortable buying contact lens from someone that is so honest with him or her.

The ordering site might also include other cautions in the disclaimers on the site. From experience, the retailers have learned that not all contact lens wearers follow their doctor's advice. To alleviate or minimize the problem, they might include certain symptoms that customers can look for when wearing contacts. They add this advice to the fine print in the disclaimers just to ensure that the customer will be armed with enough information to be able to recognize problems.

If they are wearing the contact lens correctly and caring for them in the prescribed manner, then these should pose no problems. In an effort to make customers more aware of conditions that might require a visit to the optometrist to correct, the disclaimers provide wearers with a list of symptoms to look for while wearing contact lens. Some disclaimers direct medical attention if customers have like changes in vision, or redness in the eye.

The disclaimer might also advise some customers to contact their eye specialist if they have any eye discomfort that cannot be explained, or excessive watering. Most retailers will advise customers to remove the contact lens until a doctor can be consulted and these disclaimers are meant to protect the public and ensure that all contact lens products are used safely.
