Do You Know What You Should About Training For Aggressive Dogs?

Dec 29, 2007
When people think about getting a puppy, they think of a cute, sweet little furball that loves to play and lavish everyone they meet with big, wet kisses. The last thing they think about is training for aggressive dogs because it never crosses their mind that their sweet little puppy could grow up to be large, scary, aggressive dog.

Unfortunately, many puppies do grow up to be aggressive dogs. Many people are under the impression that aggression is the result abuse and neglect. While many dogs are indeed aggressive because of shameful mistreatment, neglect and abuse are not always to blame for aggression. In fact, many aggressive dogs have owners that love them and treat them extremely well. So why do some dogs with kind, loving owners turn into aggressive dogs?

The problem is that people have gotten so used to having dogs as pets they tend to consider them as a part of their human family. And while they are wonderful additions to any family, dogs are not humans. They are animals with strong natural instincts that, while perfectly normal, can sometimes be overwhelming and lead to aggressive behavior. Many owners fail to recognize this, and in doing so, completely miss early warning signs of aggression.

Recognizing these early signs is the key to understanding how to treat aggressive dog behavior. The only way that training for aggressive dogs can be successful is if the underlying causes of aggression are identified and understood.

So, in order to learn how to help an aggressive dog, you must first learn to recognize the warning signs of certain instincts that are becoming problematic, and understand what you must do to help curb these instincts. The most common warning signs to watch for are excessive displays of dominance, fear and territorialism.

If your dog seems to be unnaturally afraid of things, then training for aggressive dogs can help to isolate and deal with their fears before aggression becomes their standard way of responding fear. Normal signs of fear in dogs include flattened ears, tails tucked behind their hind legs, shaking, and low growl in the back of their throats.

It is critical that dogs to have a clear understanding of their position in their pack, which is your family. It is perfectly acceptable for dogs to use domination as they jockey for position among themselves, but not with you. If your dog is attempting to dominate the human members of your family (especially children), then you need to look into training for aggressive dogs right now.

It is good for dogs to watch out for intruders, but excessive territorial attitudes become undesirable, especially when you have guests in your house. Dogs consider their home, family or anything they believe to be theirs (toys, food, your shoes) as their possessions that must be defended at all costs. If your dog's defensive behavior is excessive, you need to realize that it is a sign of aggression and learn how to treat aggressive dog behavior.

Don't let your puppy to grow up to be an aggressive dog. Learn to recognize warning signs of aggression and how to help an aggressive dog modify their behavior. Remember, the sooner that training for aggressive dogs begins, the sooner your dog will become happy, well-adjusted members of the family.
