Coffee Shop Equipment Basics

Dec 29, 2007
The way in which you operate your coffee shop is up to you, but there is some basic equipment that you are going to need. This way you will be able to quickly and efficiently meet the varying needs of each customer that takes the time to visit your establishment.

You will need to have industrial sized coffee pots in place so you can have plenty of it fresh and ready to go. Most people will ask for regular coffee but make sure you have a couple of fresh pots of decaffeinated as well. It can take several minutes for a pot of coffee to brew so always be prepared. As you get low make sure more is started so there is always a continuous supply.

Coffee grinders are essential if you plan to offer your own freshly ground coffee. This can definitely improve the quality of it and gain you more repeat customers. Should you decide to use coffee grounds instead make sure you get them from a supplier known for the best tasting coffee products.

Cappuccino, lattes, and creamy drinks have become very common as well. With an espresso machine you will have the tools to make all of them. Your menu should tell people what is included in each drink you offer. You want an espresso machine that is automatic so that the right amount of each ingredient is added. You can then whip them altogether for a very delicious drink.

Not all coffee shop equipment is the same size or the same price. You should avoid those with features that you don't intend to lose. Otherwise you will just be wasting money that you could use for something else. You want to check out the warranty information as well if you are buying new equipment. Sometimes used coffee shop equipment can be a good investment. Other times though it can end up costing you a fortune for repairs as well as done time that doesn't impress your customers at all.

It is vital to the success of your coffee shop that you always have all of your equipment operating as it should. Inspect it regularly so that you can identify any problems before they become big ones. Make sure it is all installed properly and that routine maintenance is taken care of. All employees should be well trained so that they don't accidentally cause damage to your coffee shop equipment.

Used coffee shop equipment can save you money initially, but it can end up costing you plenty in the end. You may have expensive repairs to cover. Also, if you don't keep it operational you can lose customers that otherwise would have been regular customers to your coffee shop.

With some careful planning and research, you won't have any problems finding the right equipment for your coffee shop. You need to make sure it is going to serve the needs of all your customers regardless of the type of drink they order from your menu. You also want it to be durable and long lasting so you aren't investing in new equipment all the time. Taking good care of the equipment you have in your coffee shop will allow you to keep your investment in it to a minimum.
