Jan 2, 2008
Even if you're a beginner, training for a triathlon really doesn't have to be an overwhelming task. While it's true that triathlons are demanding and will challenge you on many different levels, they can also be a lot of fun.

Triathlons combine an exciting road race, bicycle tour, and swim meet into one competition. No matter what has sparked the desire in your to compete, there are some very important things that you should think about when starting your beginner triathlon training.

First and foremost, you need an achievable training plan before you begin training for a triathlon. You need to know your weaknesses and the limits of your strengths for each event.

You could easily injure yourself and take yourself out of the running if you push yourself too fast. To avoid exhausting yourself to that level, you really need to be in good physical shape in the first place.

You can find plenty of support aides in the community if you're training for a triathlon. You can find beginner triathlon classes at some health clubs or local gyms. When you try out these programs, you'll be introduced to all the sports you need to know to successfully compete in the event.

You can also contact the organization that is sponsoring the triathlon to see if they have any training classes or groups. Not only are these great resources for information, but to learn how to create a training plan and schedule for each sport.

If you've been working out, practicing, and feel ready to tackle the real thing, it's time to look for a triathlon event to participate in. You should be able to find out about triathlon events by searching the internet, and you can also ask some of your contacts. Going online is still a good way to dig up information about triathlons, not to mention tips you'll need when training for a triathlon.

Once you are ready to participate and consider yourself a triathlete, it is still essential for you to continue training and improving your abilities. You should always work hard toward improving your strengths further and getting rid of your weaknesses.

After participating in your first triathlon, get out of your comfort zone and try out events outside of your local community. There are great races out there to challenge you.

Training for a triathlon and participating are great ways to help you maintain your fitness and personal health as you are constantly striving to improve for each race.
