Letting Yourself Go - Or Not After You Say "i Do"

Jan 11, 2008
Women put in a tremendous amount of work into looking their all time best for that one special day, to the detriment of the men they're about to marry. Because truly, who can keep up that look for even another day? And yet most men want their wives to look the way they did they day they married them, including the long hair, the slim body, etc.). And most women settle in to taking the rest of their lives to change the their husbands into something they husband can never be. Does this sound like a set-up for marriage failure?

Two decades later wives don't look anything like they did on their wedding days, to the detriment of their husbands, now experiencing mid-life crisis while learning to control his newly discovered wandering eye. Meanwhile the women try to figure out how come they don't recognize the man they married twenty years ago; he's changed but not the way she was hoping for. Disappointment for both is inevitable.

So why is it that as soon as women get married the first thing that seems to come off is the gorgeous long hair and the first thing they put on is weight?

We all know the couples that were slim before they got married and a year after their wedding we run into them at the mall and "holy crap, what happened!?" they both gained weight. "It's the wife's cooking," he says proudly showing off her domestic skills which leave a mark called love handles.

What about us women though? We have enjoyed our own cooking for the most part of our lives, so why gain weight after we're married? More importantly, how do we get off the unnecessary weight, without falling into the endless downward spiral called "diet trap?

Try these 3 steps that may help you get that attractive and tight body back that leaves your feeling gorgeous about yourself:

1. Protect that gym membership as if your life depended on it. Once the children are here, everything changes and life often is lived exclusively for others from then on. Taking a sliver of time for yourself every day seems pure luxury, and it doesn't have to be this way. Often we rationalize making other excuses like "It's just too expensive," or "I just don't have the time." Yet working out, sweating or doing some form of exercise may be your saving grace to keeping your sanity as well as your individuality.

2. Keep that long hair. Yes, one of the first things we chop off when we get married seems to be that long gracious long hair that takes oh-so much time every day. Yes, it's a lot of work. And I dare you to spend that extra 30 minutes a day to treat yourself nice by looking your very best with your beautiful long hair. Instead of seeing long hair as a burden, see it as a blessing and a money saver. Short hair costs a lot more in hair dresser fees than long hair does. You can use the money you save on a hair dresser on your gym membership.

3. Your body is king. Listen to it. Food has been a social bonding experience since the beginning of time. Adam and Eve shared an apple and they felt "one." However, instead of asking your partner "What are you having?" realize that your body doesn't care about what he's having. In a strange illogical kind of way we simply want to feel closer to the other person by eating the same. It really doesn't make any sense. Instead, learn to ask this question of your body: "What do you feel like?" Your Higher Self will feel tremendously respected that you consider what your body wants, and in turn will bless you with a body that works like a charm.
