The Big Muscle Look Is Dead In Hollywood

Jan 12, 2008
Leading Actors Are Now Slimming Down Instead of Bulking Up

Remember when Hollywood's action stars were massively muscular? Back in the 80's when Arnold Schwarzenegger was Hollywood's leading man, bodybuilding became mainstream for a short period of time. It led to a whole generation of guys who wanted to gain as much muscle as possible. It has been over 20 years since Terminator came out, and yet the fitness industry still feels the impact of that movie.

The Large Muscle Look Has Never Impressed Women As Much As Men

Women like guys who look great in a suit, jeans, with or without their clothes on. Massively muscular guys simply don't do anything for most women. Soap operas are popular with women, because they fulfill their fantasies. Women love the type of looks you see in soap operas. Even in the 80's when Arnold ruled, women preferred the lean and slimmer guys with decent muscle definition over the excessive muscle look.

Almost 10 Years Ago, When Fight Club Came Out, The Big Muscle Look Died

For years during the big muscle era, women kept trying to tell guys that they were more interested in muscle definition and not into the bodybuilder look. Guys didn't really listen until 1999, when Fight Club came out. Brad Pitt finally showed the masses of guys out there that being ultra-lean with a normal build is more bad-ass looking than being huge and bulky. Brad's character, Tyler Durden, was able to get a hip and funky look, but had amazing muscle definition when he took his shirt off. This is a winning combination with the ladies and all actors are now striving for this look.

Actors Have Slimmed Down in Record Numbers Since 1999

How many women do you know who find Matt Damon attractive? About every single woman you know! He is the new action star and has a regular size build with great muscle definition. He has the build of a slim Navy Seal or Special Ops guy. These men are slim with functional strength. Someone like Arnold looks cool in the movie Predator, but in reality he would move slower and get shot due to his excess size. Mark Wahlberg is another example of a guy who used to be big, but created a sleek look. What about Johnny Depp? People forget he used to be bulky earlier in his career. Now that he has slimmed down, women can't get enough of this guy. He would look stupid if he added 30 pounds of muscle!

Are You Stuck In The Late 80's and Trying To Get Massive?

What impresses guys in the gym is a turn-off for women in the outside world. Sure there are some women who like the massive look. Heck, there are men who like women with excessive body hair. I am not trying to impress the 4 gym bunnies, I want to attract a beautiful woman out in the outside world. If you want to have a cheesiness factor when you wear a suit or jeans, then get as big as possible. Sure most people will think you are corny, but your buddies in your gym will think you are a god. If your goal is to attract women, you may want to reconsider gaining excessive muscle.
