Personalized Wedding Favors: Memorable Gifts On A Budget

Jan 13, 2008
A couple's wedding is one of the most special and personal events in their relationship. Preparation and planning for months can be stressful, but it is important to remember who and what this day is for; you and your fiancé! One simple, yet important aspect of the wedding to keep in mind is wedding favors. Wedding favors, while small and simple, can be personalized to thank all attendees in a unique and inexpensive way.

A Historical View

The wedding favor tradition dates back to the Roman Empire. Italian wedding favors were originally in the form of metal, and of fruit and sugar-coated nuts. The sweetened Jordan almond was especially important because it symbolized hope and the bittersweet of marriage. Today, we still see remnants of the original Italian almond. These almond, ribbon and confetti wedding favors are typically wrapped in a small sachet and are now the almond is occasionally covered in chocolate.

Another wedding favor that was traditionally given out during the Elizabethan era was sugar cubes in glass boxes. These favors were called bonbonnière. At first, these gifts were only given by aristocrats because sugar was high in price, but over time, the price of sugar dropped, which allowed anyone to give these unique wedding gifts.

Wedding Favors Today

Today, you don't have to be an aristocrat to give unique wedding favors. Any couple can find inexpensive, personalized wedding favors with a little pre-purchase research. Many wedding favors are available that can effectively reflect your personal style and your guests' wants even on a tight budget.

These unique, personalized wedding favors are great for guests and won't break your wedding budget:

· Give your guests wine stoppers, glassware or wine sets to toast your wedding

· Matchbooks, candles and lighters can spark guests' attention

· Candy gifts, such as a champagne bottle filled with candy, will be remembered

· Chocolate gifts are a rich idea for anyone on a budget

· Picture frames can help display the memories of the day

· Breath mints, gum and lollipops will leave a sweet impression

· Notepads, pens and pencils are practical gifts

· Coasters and napkins can add a personal touch to place settings

· Playing cards will entertain long after the day has ended

· Decanters, ice buckets, vases and bowls can be used repeatedly, reminding guests of your special day for years to come

Wedding favors can even be determined by what region you live in. If you're on the east coast, consider giving salt water taffy or caramel apples. If you're down south, peach preserves with a personalized label attached would be perfect the gift for your guests. For the mid-westerners, give your guests the gift of corn. Caramel corn, that is.

Make a rich statement on a low budget. Personalized wedding favors do not need to be lavish and expensive to be considered unique. With a little research, the perfect wedding favor can be found. Add a touch of creativity and give personalized wedding favors that will be remembered, just like your special day.
