Tips To Streamline Your Study Furniture

Jan 16, 2008
Choosing well-made furniture for your study is crucial if you want to create a room that is not only stylish, but comfortable as well. This is especially true if you do a lot of work from home. Your study should be efficiently designed and spacious. It should be durable enough to hold up to children and the toys that they ultimately leave under your desk or on your chair. Above all, your study should be a refuge for you; a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of your home.

Your study chair is by far the most important piece of furniture in your study. Having a comfortable, sturdy chair will make your study a comfortable place in which to work. A beautifully designed study won't be an attractive place to spend your time if the chair doesn't suit you.

The trend over the last several years has been to purchase study chairs that have adjusting levers protruding from every angle of the chair, making it look more like a dentist's chair than a piece of furniture. These types of chairs can make even the most carefully designed office look heavy and overdone. Modern study chairs are more streamlined. Their comfort comes from careful design, not how many angles can be swiveled and adjusted. Try out several chairs in the furniture store. When you find the right study chair, it will just suit you, both in style and in comfort.

Your study table should have an open, streamlined design. The old-fashioned desk design of the past, with a full back, should be avoided in the modern study. Instead, choose an open, streamlined design that allows you full access to any computer equipment you need to reach. Obviously care should be taken to match your desk with the rest of the furniture in the room.

Along with your chair and table, adequate storage is a very important consideration when designing your study. Bookshelf sets that have option pieces such as door panels and drawers are an excellent storage solution for any study. These option pieces allow you to decide how many shelves will be easily accessible to you, how many shelves will be hidden, and how many drawers you need. They also allow you to decide the configuration of these spaces, as well as redesign the space whenever you like.

Desk accessories should be carefully chosen when designing your study. Avoid desk accessories made of plastic or metal, or those with an open-sided design.. Solid-sided desk accessories made of leather or wood will help keep your study looking streamlined and elegant. If you use a laptop as your primary computer, consider also purchasing a desk pad, or blotter. These old-fashioned desk accessories were once used because they provided a smoother surface than wood for writing. Now, a blotter can be used to delineate a space for your laptop. By doing this, your laptop will look as if it belongs there, rather than appearing to be an afterthought.

By following these steps, you can create a study that not only is a functional and comfortable office, but an elegant retreat as well.
