The Cosy World Of Furniture

Jan 17, 2008
Furniture has been in existence and in our homes since the eighth century BC. These are evident in early paintings, murals and ornaments, namely from the Egyptian and Turkish cultures. Furniture today, though they are used for the same purposes as they would have been done in the earlier periods, have also become an item of modern art and design. Designers popularly use reception furniture for experimental or modern artistic designs. Very often, these are used in corporate buildings to create a certain type of atmosphere.

Looking for the right home or reception furniture can be quite difficult. Think along the lines of actually going shopping looking for that one perfect outfit. You picture it in your mind, but as you walk around to all of the shopping outlets in the high street, the image slowly escapes away from your mind like smoke particles on a windy day. The reason being is that you have looked at other designs along the way, each item looking just as impressive as the other, but it is not the garment you are looking and so you fall into the dilemma of constantly being distracted by other products and moving further away from the ideal dress. Such concept can be applied to daily life.

Without digressing too much, this concept applies for all shopaholics. If you are someone who has just recently launched your own business and are still in the stages of moving furniture in, then naturally you would opt for the most aesthetically appealing reception furniture- often retailers and shopping outlets hike up the prices so as to sell the brand or designer that you may not have heard of.

Office work environment tend to have a very simple and neutral layout, with calm colours and padded right-angled armchairs that manoeuvre on wheels. Desks are usually made out of beech or oak wood, wide in size, arranged in a row and sometimes with a plant added beside it for some organic ambience amidst the harsh electric lighting and uncomfortable air conditioning in the room. Larger companies purchase comfortable padded sofas, which are finished with a fine leather upholstering. Special furniture designed for conferences often have the added distraction of swinging around in circles, making it flexible to your constant fidgeting in a boring meeting.

An average ceremonial event see people hiring stacking chairs and fold-out tables, carefully disguised with a fancy table cloth and a decorative centrepiece. The stacking chairs are not always very comfortable, especially the fold-up chairs that are pure metal and have no padding added to it.

Home furnishing truly depends upon the individual's style and taste. They are commonly selected to match the wall colour or act as a delicate contrast to the colour of the carpet. Gone are the days of gushy flower patterned sofas and couches, in are the leather, suede, fabric upholstered plain coloured art deco! Tables and chairs are also an important feature, coming in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Modern furniture can appear almost avant-garde at times and provide a very fresh display to a newly built house. This look can be perceived as bare and cold, rather than warm and cosy.

Furniture is a thing of beauty and art, as well as being a comforting necessity to our daily lives. Very few people in the Western culture are accustomed to the simple life, of sitting on the floor or using their hands as a table to hold their dinner plate. One would think that chairs and tables have made us become less limber losing the ability to use our sitting bones as they have been designed for through evolution.
