Cash In The Attic Reveals Your Hidden Treasures

Jan 17, 2008
It is everyone's dream to be able to clean out the attic of their home and discover that they have something of real value that has been hidden away up there.

It really does happen and more often than we probably think. The business of collecting and keeping old things or unique things has become very popular and many times profitable as well.

If you are a fan of watching the BBC through your cable or satellite television service, then you may have seen the popular UK show, Cash in the Attic. It first aired in 2002 and has been on for eleven seasons. It is very popular over there and is watched by many here in the United States.

The show has a really unique format. The cast of the show that consist of several members, will go to a particular home where the occupants need to get a certain amount of money for some special reason. It can be to remodel in the home, go on a trip, or just do something nice for someone else. The reasons they need to raise money are usually different.

The way that the show helps these people get the money they need is by cleaning out their attic and any other room of the house that might contain items that they can part with. After they have found any number of things, they will set them up at a public sale to be auctioned off. This is such an interesting and often funny procedure to watch.

Unfortunately for the people selling their items, the auctions can take place weeks later and they have to wait to know the results of how much money they will make. Once the items are brought to the auction site, it can be really exciting to watch and see if the things they chose to sell will bring in the amounts of money that they hoped for.

Seeing the sometimes ecstatic reactions of the seller when an item does really well, or the disappointment they show when an item does not meet their expectations is a lot of fun.

We are lucky to have the ability to see programs such as this one that are produced and filmed in other countries. We get to see that when all is said and done, many of us across the world are more alike than we know. Especially when it comes to collecting things and how we eventually get rid of them.
