Reduce Acne With A Six-step Diet

Jan 22, 2008
An excellent way to control your acne is a balanced diet and making sure to supplement your diet with the proper nutrients and vitamins. Pay attention to the appearance of your skin because it is often times a reflection what we put into our bodies. Find ways to make both your body and skin fit with your diet.

Starting with food All of our bodies are different and what might affect one person will not affect another, so diary your food intake and compare your breakouts to your food consumption. You could also try eliminating a certain food or drink from you diet to see if you notice a change in your complexion. Refined sugar, dairy, and caffeine are common breakout triggers.

Hydration daily It is imperative that you keep your skin hydrated. It is a common misnomer that dry and taut skin is good because it means your face is clean, but in reality your face may be clean, but when your skin is that dry it will overcompensate by producing more oil, which we all know is what clogs your pores. Be sure to moisturize multiple times a day, but more importantly drink plenty of water and other healthy fluids. If you're thirsty, then you're dehydrated. So don't let yourself get thirsty!

Vitamin A: Make sure you have enough Foods that contain vitamin A include egg yolks, spinach, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, and beef. A supplement is available and beneficial too. With enough vitamin A in your body, your skin will rebuild itself more effectively by expediting the healing of existing acne and reducing dry, flaky skin. There is also proof that those with severe acne may have low levels of vitamin A in their system.

Antioxidants is the new buzzword Beneficial antioxidants like vitamins C and E and alpha lipoic acid are obtainable through supplements and foods like green, leafy vegetables, potatoes, broccoli, citrus fruits, and seeds. Free radicals in the environment that can damage the skin are fought off by antioxidants making them important to any diet. Some studies say that to aid in skin renewal take an alpha lipoic acid supplement to help diminish acne scars.

Don't forget about omega 3 This is an essential fatty acid that many of us do not consume enough of. Essential fatty acids aid in controlling oil production and maintaining skin hydration. If you have black heads or very dry skin that could be a sign you do not have enough omega 3 in your diet. Eat more fish or even take a fish oil supplement to obtain fit skin.

More zinc for vegetarians Vegetarians often have a hard time consuming enough zinc because it is mostly found in chicken and oysters. Zinc aids in controlling the oil production in your skin so if you do not include a lot of poultry and shell fish in your diet, then a zinc supplement may be helpful.
