Wall Mounted Computer Stations: Why They're Better Than The Rest

Jan 23, 2008
The newest trend in computer furniture is the wall mounted computer station. As the prevalence of computers increases in schools, businesses, and medical offices, kiosks and multiuser computer stations are cropping up everywhere. The furniture industry is quickly catching up with sleek, compact, wall mounted computer stations that can be mounted virtually anywhere that a computer is needed but a computer desk might be too bulky.

Wall mounted computer stations work like this: First, they can be designed to be used by a standing or seated user simply by adding a chair and adjusting the height of the mounted keyboard. The keyboard tray, CPU, and monitor mount either directly to the wall, or to a pole which is mounted to the wall. Pole mounts tend to be more versatile, allowing the keyboard to be moved up and down. For the monitor, it doesn't matter whether the LCD arm is mounted to the wall or on a pole. The monitors, on most wall mounts, can be adjusted for height and tilt regardless of the type of mount used. They do need to be located near a power source, but often, that power source can be on the other side of the wall, in a locked room and the cables are run through the walls much like wall mounted flat screen televisions are.

Wall mounts provide computer accessibility in hallways, common areas, classrooms, airports, or anywhere else that a desk is simply inappropriate or, where users need to use the computer for a very brief period of time and sitting is not necessary or encouraged.

Christopher Stormer, the Director of Marketing at Versatables, a high-end computer manufacturing company in Los Angeles, says, "We're now getting a lot of orders for wall mounts. People are seeing how functional they are and they can finally put computers any place they're needed as opposed to being restricted to putting them in offices or other places where they can fit a desk."

Wall mounts from Versa also have a locking mechanism that allows them to be turned off or locked up when unsupervised or at night. "Computers are expensive and need to be able to be secured," says Stormer. "Locking the keyboard up, or the CPU, is a way to prevent theft or vandalism."

The Ultra Flat Wall Mount Computer Station from Versatables comes in two colors and retails for only $299, much more affordable than most computer desks. It also features an adjustable height keyboard tray and a height-adjustable monitor.

Versatables is known for its innovative, high-quality, American-made computer desks and computer desk accessories. The company's clients include Fortune 500 companies, major universities, hospitals, and military bases all over the country. All of Versa's products are shipped for free and carry Versa's comprehensive lifetime warranty. All products ship factory-direct from Los Angeles via Fed-Ex or other reputable carrier.
