Changes Seen In Travel By Air

Jan 27, 2008
Traveling by air can be a lot of fun because people are able to carry items onboard their flight that will amuse them for hours. Of course, getting these items onboard is a bit shaky and time consuming but people who have been thoroughly briefed on what is allowed and what is not make it through the security checkpoints with no problems at all.

Those that do not pass the tests of a security scan will find that they have many people to talk to during the course of their travels. Their belongings will also be under extreme scrutiny and it is quite possible that some personal items might be removed from luggage before the passenger is allowed to board. Passengers must now ensure that their key chains and necklace charms are not on the weapons list.

People know that they can get a cocktail onboard the flight, but there are limits to how many can be drunk during a flight. Getting onboard a flight after sitting in an airport bar partaking of certain refreshments might prove to be a problem to many because people have found that they can be denied boarding if they are showing signs of being drunk. People used to be able to have several drinks before their flight departed the gate without any reverberations from the flight crews.

Travel by air is one of the most economical ways of traveling if people learn to search for the bargains. The changes seen in the way people can buy tickets and pay for them have dramatically changed over the last fifteen years or more. People no longer have to visit the airport to buy their tickets at the counter because those counters have been moved to the internet framework and people can buy tickets online from any location in the world.

People have come to expect less from the service that they get while they are in-flight. Some view the low prices of their airline tickets as a poor replacement for the treatment that they expect from stewards. Packaged peanuts and a drink used to be the most welcomed amenities that people could receive when they were finally seated on the flight. These niceties would serve to quiet a growling tummy while in-flight or at least until the in-flight meal would arrive.

People never thought that when traveling by air that someone would think to determine that a peanut packet or a drink could be considered a weapon. Perhaps a comforting blanket might take up the slack but those are rarer these days because the use of them makes operating an airline a less affordable venture. Some creature comforts of some passengers have been vigorously pursued in some passengers favor however, when smoking was banned on flights within the U.S. and later, on international flights.

Air travelers wait with baited breath to see what other changes will occur in the travel industry. People will certainly not be able to phone home when they are in-flight because the use of their mobile phone has already been prohibited in-flight to a certain point. Travelers can still choose to use the old fashioned coin machines to alert their friends to travel bargains, but they might not feel like they are alone on the line because Homeland Security might be monitoring their call.
