Competitive Keyword Optimization for On-Page SEO

Have You ever wondered how keyword density and keyword proximity play a role in SEO?

I was able to optimize terms for our site using long-tail and broad search terms with key words like - (Custom, SEO, Link, Company, Professional, Affordable, Effective, SEM, Chicago, Local, Development, Building, Expert) all from just adjusting on-page modifiers in the tags, descriptions and titles of the pages.

This tactic works for targeting an entire niche with multiple keywords. By systematically raising the allinanchor relevance for each KEY word (through off-page link building using vast combination of the keywords) when someone conducts a search for any combination of the terms, the site would be returned in search results.

If you wanted to rank higher for successive terms, you would then build a higher concentration of links using those phrases "in exact match form".

As a result, the sites optimized with this method continually devoured more and more top 10 ranking key phrases as a result. Since the internal keyword density and external links pointing at the site were synonymous.

The case study just happened to be our site. But a very powerful SEO secret was realized as a result. For example even with a Page Rank 2 site (at the time), we were able to take over high search volume terms due to the type and format of the keyword density of the pages in one of the most competitive keyword arenas (the SEO industry).

This effect was created over a period of 3 months and much to the dismay of our competitors I know it is an aching thorn in their side that such a new SEO company with a PR2 was able to outrank and out position PR 3,4,5,6 and sometimes 7 sites for a number of their targeted key phrases.

In the case of this revelation the terms; effective SEO, SEO results, optimize and any combination of other search terms and of course SEO in it's abbreviated form carries a great deal of emphasis due to the URL name.

The moral of the story is, not to let page rank discourage you from targeting high volume search terms.

Build links to specific pages with specific anchor text in the back link using the keywords with the highest density on that page, and almost magically top 10 search engine rankings became commonplace with long tail optimization techniques.

I have to give this one away, even though it has been said time and time again. The more quality inbound links you have aimed at a page, the higher it ranks.

Search engine optimization typed in a Google query for example is currently held by someone with 1,450 back links pointing to one page with specific anchor text for that the term.

Internal linking plays just as important a role as external links, and back links from subdirectories can work wonders for ranking for specific terms.

More on this at a later time, but for now it is safe to say that if achieving high rankings is the goal, off page optimization accounts for 75% of the affect.

So although in the past, meta tags played their role in optimization of websites, now it about the title, description, content in the body, the proximity of the keywords, how frequently they are used and if there is anchor text and (what text is in the anchor text) that matters for the on-page optimization.

The moral of the story here is not to be discouraged by someone who got the jump on you building links. It is possible to coordinate your on page content and off page link popularity to surpass your competition.

The extent of your success depends on how organized your content is, who you link to, who links to you and how popular your search queries click through rate is.

For most websites you can achieve top 10 placement for your pages with 25-30 quality inbound links (per page) for national terms.

The key here is quality, so the more links you receive from trusted sites with authority, the higher the link juice from their position.

If your site gets a link from a website from the top 10 for those keywords, this is far greater in comparison to thousands of links from pages with little of no authority (or no relevance), so choose link partners (or where you build links from) carefully so your site does not hemorrhage it's own rankings (through up linking or weak backlinks) from less than likely candidates.

Also, make sure that you spread your links around (not just to the home page). The stronger your internal links, the better, so themed pages should be connected using the anchor text (the text in the link) to link pages based on the terms you want to rank for.

Aside from this, it is important to make link building a consistent part of your website promotion strategy. First start with great content, if your on page factors are weak, no amount of SEO can compensate.

If you are targeting keywords, make sure they are on your pages, from there, use the right tags in your documents and then build links using a wide array of related keywords to those pages.
