Pros And Cons Of Getting A Partial Tummy Tuck

Jan 30, 2008
Getting a partial tummy tuck is not an easy decision. If you are the one considering getting an abdominal tuck, you have a lot to look into before signing in.

True, it is less radical and much safer than the standard procedure, still the risks are there and if this decision is entered into without proper thought, you may end up regretting it afterwards.

Defining The Mini Tuck

This procedure is also known as the mini-tuck, scarless abdominoplasty, and others. No matter what the name, it pertains to a type of abdominoplasty that only repairs the lower part of the abdomen (portion below the navel). This procedure is advised for women who have fat pouches or extra skin on their lower abdomen. It is often a result of pregnancy or may come from weight loss.

Pros

Because of the fact that it is not as extensive as its brother the standard abdominoplasty, patients can expect that the recovery and down times to be less also. Most of the time, a person who had a mini tuck is able to go back to work (without excessive physical straining) in less than 2 weeks that is with the support of pressure garments.

Another pro to the mini tuck that can be quantified in the time category is the duration of the surgery; since there is less to do; the patient is put under anesthesia for a shorter period of time than they would normally do with the standard tuck.

When people talk about the possibility of no operation scars, they usually refer to the scarless abdominoplasty. But the fact is, you still have scarring even with the procedure. The only difference is that it is not as prominent as that of the standard tuck because of the lesser area that needs to be repaired.

Near invisible scars can be achieved by an experienced plastic surgeon and scars will take up to a year and even more to completely blend in to the person's skin color.

Cons

Like the Yin Yang, if there is a positive side; there also must be a negative one. For the partial tummy tuck, its flaw is the fact that the results are not as dramatic as the standard abdominoplasty. Patients would have to expect that there will be some redundant fat tissue above the navel because the procedure does not cover that area.

Also, the mini tuck is only advised for women who have a slight problem with the abdomen. The operation will definitely be unable to accomplish the results of a standard tuck; however, a little change may be all you need. So go and check out the expected benefits of getting a partial tummy tuck.
