Online Payment Options

Jan 31, 2008
A lot of people starting their online business have a hurdle right out of the gate: They can't get a merchant account, or they're afraid they can't get a merchant account. For some people, this is the hardest part about starting their online business.

The good news is you don't need a merchant account to accept payments. There are at least two great options that will let you accept credit cards without actually having a merchant account.

I've added a third solution to this list. This is for those who really want to establish a merchant account, but may have problems because of a spotty credit history (or other reasons). This solution can help for almost everyone starting out in business.

These three solutions can help solve your payment problems:

Clickbank. Accept payment for your digitally-delivered products using major credit cards or e-checks. For a nominal fee (around $50), Clickbank can help. You don't have to handle the transactions or the payment. Clickbank accepts the payment, takes a small percentage, and sends you a check. Some people think that Clickbank is too expensive, but when I look at all the services they provide (including refund and bookkeeping services), I think it's a good value.

PayPal. Studies prove that having PayPal on your sales page can boost conversions. Offer this as a payment option, and you will make more sales. Just like Clickbank, PayPal will handle the entire transaction for you. Your customers can use any major credit card, even e-checks, and they don't need a separate PayPal account.

PowerPay. So you still want a real merchant account, not a work-around like Clickbank or PayPal? You may still qualify for a merchant account, even if your credit is spotty or you have been turned down before. Visit this site: PowerPay at http://ipowerpay.com - The best Merchant Account for online Marketers. Judd Smith and his people at PowerPay have experience with online marketers. So don't be intimidated by the prospect of setting up your merchant account. These are three simple solutions that can help you get set up for collecting payments fast!
