Improve Your First Impressions with Facial Liposuction

Feb 3, 2008
The old saying that "you never get a second chance at a first impression" is certainly true, and the first impression most people get is of your face. If you're anxious about your chubby face, people will notice. To improve your self-esteem and gain confidence, consider facial liposuction.

This procedure is a very common request among both men and women, because some areas of the face can be stubborn. No matter how much you diet or exercise, your cheeks, chin, jawline, and neck might not seem to change.

The Procedure

Facial liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes undesired, localized accumulations of fat tissue. Early forms of liposuction were originally intended for shaping larger areas of the body, like the abdomen and buttocks, but technological advances have made more sophisticated techniques possible.

Usually, facial liposuction is a procedure that can be successfully performed without additional surgery. This is particularly true for younger individuals, although some older folks may require more surgery, like a face lift or brow lift, to get the results they want. This is because skin elasticity decreases with time.

Who Should Get Facial Liposuction?

Most people, both men and women, who want to remove localized buildups of fat are good candidates for facial liposuction - as long as they meet some basic physical requirements. The candidate should be in good overall health, have good skin elasticity (not required, because follow-up surgery can correct this), and know their expectations. When you meet with your doctor, he or she will help determine if you are likely to benefit from facial liposuction.

Facial liposuction is a good long-term solution because, after puberty, the body does not produce any new fat cells. (When we gain weight after puberty, that's due to the expansion of existing fat cells.) Therefore, because facial liposuction completely removes fat cells, one procedure is often sufficient.

The Recovery Process

You will need very few stitches, probably less than two, to close the holes the surgeon used to place the cannulas. You should cover the affected area with an elastic dressing for a few days, and should use this same dressing to cover the area while you sleep for a few additional weeks.

Over-the-counter products will help manage any discomfort. Use a mild analgesic of your choice, and a cold pack to help reduce swelling. If you follow your doctor's orders, you will be back to normal in as little as two to four days.
