The Different Ways Of Armpit Hair Removal

Feb 4, 2008
There are a lot of ways for armpit hair removal. Shaving is a popular choice because it can be performed in the comforts of home. Waxing and laser hair removal have also gained popularity because they tend to be more permanent than shaving or pulling out each hair one by one.

Shaving

The development of the safety shaver had done leaps and bounds for the practice of underarm hair removal in women. This is the most common practice of removing axillary hair. There are a lot of reasons why most women prefer this over waxing. One reason is that it can be done in the confines of the home - the shower to be exact. Women can just shave their underarm hair together with their legs. Although, it is important to remember that underarm hair grows faster than leg hair, so it has to be shaved more often. Shaving has propagated one of the most common myths about underarm hair removal: that it causes the hair to grow back thicker. This is of course unfounded and is just a myth. Hair growth or thickness is not controlled by external forces.

Waxing

The effects of waxing last longer than shaving does! This is related to the fact that waxing removes the roots of the hair follicles; therefore hair growth takes much longer than just shaving. Waxing should always be performed by a professional because it can easily go awry and even cause the removal of underarm skin and not just the hair.

Tweezing

Believe it or not, some women do practice tweezing in the removal of underarm hair. Like waxing, this has a much longer lasting effect than just shaving because it removes the roots of the hair. Tweezing is no longer a common practice because:
A - It is far more uncomfortable and painful than the one time process of waxing. With tweezing, you have to locate each hair one by one and pull it out.
B - This is not practiced because women noticed that the pore and the skin pucker when tweezing is performed, resulting in a 'dressed turkey skin' appearance.

Laser Hair Removal

This is a practice that has started to grow in popularity over the last decade or so. This is a painless procedure that promises the permanent removal of armpit hair. Be advised that the permanent effects are not automatic and it may take two to three sessions before it becomes permanent. The reason for this is that armpit hair grows in different stages and the process can only target a certain stage to make the process permanent.
