No Excuses - Maximising Muscle Gain And Fat Loss On A Busy Schedule

Feb 7, 2008
In all honesty the excuse of not having enough time - the excuse people most often give for not exercising and getting the body they want just doesn't cut it. In this modern society, being busy is really not some martyred excuse one can give. Just about everyone is busy these days but there are those who know how to get the job done.

Not having enough time is actually not the real reason people fail to exercise and thus have any hope of changing their bodies by adding quality lean muscle and losing excess fat. The real reason is that people simply do not want a better body as much as they think they do. If they did, they would be actively prioritizing to make it happen. It's just not that important to them which in our free society is entirely their choice. In fact if anyone falls into this category they should probably do themselves a favor and stop beating themselves up over something they don't have but don't really want anyway!

There is a key distinction here though. The first group of people who believe themselves to be short of time use it as an excuse not to do anything because deep down they really don't want to. But there is a second group - those people who genuinely want to improve their bodies and create a program to maximize muscle gain and fat loss in spite of their busy schedule. They know their lifestyle is against them yet they try anyway. The problem though is that without proper guidance it can be hard for them to succeed.

However, more often than not the people in the second group already have the key foundations for success because the reason that they are busy is that they are driven, successful high achievers in other areas of their lives. I work with many corporate clients that fall into this category and it is always pleasing to see them realize that what has often concerned them as an insurmountable problem that may have defeated them on more than one occasion is not really all that hard. Certainly no harder than the various business and personal challenges they have overcome in other areas of their lives where they have achieved mastery.

The most successful people are often adept at juggling a number of different areas that require their attention. When you follow the three key steps below, the process will be literally like adding one extra ball to the juggling mix you are already comfortable with. If you don't adhere to them, it will feel like (and probably end up like) you have to juggle 5 flaming chainsaws whilst riding a unicycle blindfolded on ice.

But time management is actually not the answer in trying to fit in an effective eating and training regime into a busy lifestyle.

So what is?

In a word: understanding.

Just like you take the time to understand your job thoroughly so you can carry it out as best as you can, why not understand your body's requirements in relation to the goals you've set for it first before plowing full throttle into training in a way that you hope or think is the best practice. If you take the time to know just the basics of the body's requirements to lose weight and gain muscle and plan and execute your training and eating patterns accordingly, you'll no doubt hit your targets, make it to the gym every time, eat responsibly without guilt or any need to keep motivated and gladly adjust your time management in relation to your busy lifestyle without any problem whatsoever.
