Rhinoplasty Surgery Information You Can Learn From

Feb 10, 2008
Have you been searching for rhinoplasty surgery information? If so, you are in the right place! Many people visit local plastic surgeons on an annual basis to learn more about the process of reconstructing the nose. These appointments are often referred to as "consultations". There are many reasons why one may elect to engage in plastic surgery on the nose. The most common reasons include the need to feel better about themselves, and to correct health issues that concern this component of the face. Here, you will learn some basic information regarding this procedure so that you may make a well-informed choice when it comes to participating in it.

Is Nose Reconstruction Right For You?

Generally, the choice to engage in reconstruction of the facial features is yours to make, and yours alone. However, there are many cases in which a person may be a good candidate for this procedure. It is important that you have a good general level of health, and that you have no known allergies to anesthesia. You should also have an immediate need for the operation in way of assisting in the airways, or simply a desire to improve the appearance of the face.

The minimum age requirement for this medical procedure is generally around sixteen years of age. There is an exception to this rule if the health is immediately affected in a positive way by the procedure. For example, many children who are born with birth defects, such as cleft lip and palate, may be good candidates for this surgery prior to the age of sixteen. Pediatric plastic surgeons often perform this type of operation.

Rhinoplasty Basics

The goal of this surgery is to reshape the nose. Normally, incisions are made within the area inside the nose. The bone in the nose, as well as the cartilage that assists in holding the bone in place is often reduced. There may be situations in which these areas receive additional bone and additional cartilage. It all depends on the goals of the surgery. In many instances, these components to the nose may simply be moved around and/or rearranged in order to achieve the restructure of the nose.

Once the appropriate shape and size of the nose has been achieved, small insertions of tissue and soft material substances are inserted in the area in order to maintain the shape. This is often placed here just during the healing process and is removed shortly thereafter. This can also be extremely beneficial when it comes to assisting in easy breathing immediately after the procedure is completed. Even though this is a condensed version, this data basically covers each and every aspect of the process that is involved.

After Surgery Of The Nose Is Completed

Once the operation has been completed, it is common to notice swelling and bruising of the area. This is simply because rhinoplasty surgery involves the movement and physical adjustment of many different features of the central face area. You will often be required to rest and take various types of pain medications. Many cosmetic surgeons will even prescribe antibiotics in order to fight possible infections that may occur after the procedure has been completed.

Typically, this surgery does not require any type of concern as there are little risks involved. It has also been established that few people experience complications. If you are interested in rhinoplasty surgery information, you should visit your local surgeon to determine if this option is right for you.
