Choose The Right Jewelry

Feb 10, 2008
Jewelry may now be considered acceptable not only for women but also for men, but there is a fine line that should not be crossed. Self-expression may be a valid excuse for wearing anything you want at anytime. However, there is always the appropriate jewelry for a certain condition, be it age group, occasion, or occupation. Thus, knowing how to choose the right jewelry is vital in completing the look that you are going for.

A watch is usually the first accessory that a man would consider buying. Some men would even go far to say that it is the only accessory that they need because of its practicality. But now that men could check the time using their indispensable mobile phones and other gadgets, watches are now valued not only for their practicality, but also for their fashion statement. The safest choice is that which is made of stainless steel. You could also opt for those with dark leather straps. These two can be worn almost anywhere, be it in the office or during a night out. For those with funkier taste, they buy a watch with bolder designs.

From a watch, it is not a long jump to a bracelet. The trick to picking the right bracelet is again to go for the simple and classic designs that you can wear almost anywhere. These are usually the ones made of precious metals, such as gold, silver, and platinum. However, other materials that reflect a more casual and younger image are available in the market. Woven and beaded bracelets, for instance, are popular among teenagers. These should be worn in non-formal occasions.

A lot of men would also consider wearing a necklace. Necklaces are available in various materials, such as beads, leather, and precious metals. Beads should be made of wood and other natural materials, not from plastic. You can choose multi-colored beads, but it would be better if you pick neutral-colored ones, as these will go well with a lot of outfits. Silver, gold, and platinum chains convey a classier and stronger image than beaded necklaces. The chain that you should pick should not be too thin as to make it look too effeminate nor too thick as to make it seem too flashy. A medium-sized chain would look best.

A ring is also another popular accessory. A simple ring is an elegant and timeless piece, but you can always jazz it up with a few stones. A silver ring would look good whether it is plain or embellished with a stone. The same goes for platinum and gold. A yellow gold ring, however, does not match with a lot of outfits and would look over the top and too flashy.

Finally, an earring would make a good fashion statement depending on how you wear it. It is not just limited to rock stars and athletes. It will, in fact, look good on any man as long as he wears it at the right time and place. Other piercings, however, may convey a different image. Lip, nipple, and belly rings often give a rebellious and unprofessional image so avoid wearing such at work.
