4 Remedies For Dry Itchy Skin

Feb 14, 2008
Nobody likes having dry itchy skin. Not only can dryness make your face itch and feel too tight, it can also leave you with rough, red patches all over your face. Not to mention the scaling, peeling and flaking you might experience on your cheeks, forehead, nose or chin.

On top of everything else, having dry skin can make you more prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles. Luckily, there are ways to deal with skin that's itchy and dry. The key is to keep your skin hydrated.

Moisturize

The best way to fight dryness is to moisturize. Not only will using a good moisturizer hydrate you skin, it will also keep moisture from escaping. You should buy a moisturizer made for those with dry skin, and use it daily. Make sure you apply it soon after you have washed your face, to lock in even more moisture.

Cold weather can also dehydrate the skin. So, if you are going out on a cold day, apply extra moisturizer. It will act as protection against the harsh elements.

Avoid Water Whenever Possible

You might like going for long swims, but your dry skin won't. Going for long swims will rob your skin of oils. But, if you do swim, apply a moisturizer as soon as you get out of the pool.

Also, washing your face more than once a day might be too drying for you. Maybe you were taught you should wash at least twice a day, in the morning and before you go to bed at night. But if your skin is itchy and dry, washing once a day will be enough.

Use the Right Soap or Cleanser

Using a soap or cleanser that is too harsh could be drying your skin out. And using one that contains the wrong ingredients could be causing some of your itching. If your face feels dry and tight after you wash it, you are using the wrong soap or cleanser.

You should use a mild and gentle soap or cleanser specially formulated for dry skin. You should also stick with products that are hypoallergenic.

Buy a Humidifier

If it's hot outside, or it's cold out and you're using central heating indoors, that could be drying out your skin.

A humidifier will add moisture to the air in your home, and help keep your skin from drying out. So place a humidifier in the room where you spend most of your time during the day, and then move it to the bedroom at night.

There are many ways to fight dry itchy skin. Taking these steps to keep your skin hydrated will make you less prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles. It will also help your skin look and feel soft, smooth and youthful.
