Designer Scarves Are More Than Neck Warmers!

Feb 23, 2008
Just when you thought you'd found a piece of clothing that could not be improved upon, along come designer scarves to show you that everything is open to fashionable reinterpretation. A scarf is more than a neck warmer... it is a fashion accessory.

Scarves are for more than inclement weather...they look great too! Not only that, you can change your look and appeal in minutes...just be adding or changing the color, fabric and style of scarf.

For this reason people are wearing designer them indoors as well as out; in warm weather as well as cool; in the ballroom as well as the boardroom. Out on a date to dinner or a movie, or just to take the chill off during the evening walk. The uses and possibilites of these "clothing statements" are practically endless.

These "signs of the times" fashion accessories come in many fabrics, cuts, colors and styles. The fabric selection itself is fairly overwhelming. Fleece or pashmina shawls are warm to the touch and soft on the eyes. Silk or synthetic scarves shimmer in the light and fall gracefully over the shoulders. Wool or cotton ones provide warmth and class. Imitation fur scarfs look exotic and convey luxury and prestige.

These different fabrics will of course look very differently when they are cut to different shapes and lengths. Long ones are the more traditional variety that can be slung over the shoulders or wrapped around the neck a few times for the look of a turtleneck. Some thinner, long ones can serve another purpose, coming around the neck and tying together to hang down like a tie. Similarly, shorter designer's can be used the same way and will resemble a bow tie. An increasingly popular cut is the square cut, which can be worn in a variety of ways around the neck and can easily slip over the head like a bandana.

As might be expected, these accessories come in every color of the rainbow. Depending upon your hair and eye color and the type of clothes being worn, not to mention the fabric and the style of the scarf itself, some colors will look better than others. This is where shopping online does not help as much as going to a store and trying a few kinds on for yourself.

The many styles are as divergent as the creative ideas of the companies that make them. Gucci, Versace, Hermes and Marc Jacobs are naturally going to interpret the preferred look of a scarf in different ways. Whether they add tassels, play with texture, or place unique prints into the weaving of the scarf, these designers can makes a relatively simple piece of clothing look quite different than one next to it.

When it comes to neck wear, the options are diverse and the designs can be nothing short of stunning. However, at the end of the day a scarf is just that, and as such is a very versatile and stylish way to add to any wardrobe. Whether for warmth or fashion, consider looking into one today.
