Buying Men's Cufflinks

Feb 25, 2008
One of the most popular forms of men's jewelry that has managed to span the ages is cufflinks. They are worn with business suits that have been fitted with French cuffs and also on tuxedos and dress robes, cufflinks are definitely the accessory for the discerning upper classman. If you are thinking of buying your beau, husband or family member a wonderful gift, why not consider getting them cufflinks? It will surely be a beautiful introduction to the dressier side of life.

Cufflinks come in all shapes and sizes imaginable - from formal ones that are subtly shaped and elegantly decorated to novelty ones that can be made to represent your man's hobbies and likes, you can even get them in their initials (like the controversial ones that Charles, the Prince of Wales wore on his Honeymoon send off) and you can even get cufflinks as gifts for babies on their baptisms or for young boys on special occasions. No matter what reason you get them for, just make sure that the receiver's style and sensibility are reflected in the design of the cufflinks so that they would be encouraged to find ways of using them. Below are the things to consider when buying your man another set or his first pair of cufflinks.

New to the Cufflink

When it's the first time for your receiver to ever get in touch with a cufflink, then it is advised that you keep it simple. Nothing to flashy, a good example is a simple platinum stud with very minimal faceting or something that may even look like a metal button. This way, he won't be scared in using them. Of course you can get flashier ones later. Also, it would help if you give a shirt with a French cuff together with the cufflink gift because if he did not have a cufflink before he can start using one with the shirt you gave him. If you are gifting a cufflink to a baby boy on his baptism, you can get simple chain linked cufflinks. This will be much easier to put on and will be safer for the baby.

The Cufflink Man

If you are planning to give cufflinks to a regular cufflink user, then you can give him the most stunning cufflinks that you can find and one that fits in your budget. Diamond Pavé cufflinks are always a good bet. You can also get him a pair with his initials on it. You can get the cufflink in any precious metal and they can be adorned with gemstones or enamel designs.

Style Sense

Now, if you are wondering what type of cufflink to give for a fun loving, happy go lucky man, that will appreciate a cute pun, why not get him a novelty piece? Perhaps a football shaped cufflink if he is a football fan - or any sports memorabilia for that matter. Sometimes, sports teams even sell cufflinks made with their logos or you can get these in official stores or in novelty stands.
