People Search: How To Quickly And Easily Find Someone

Feb 26, 2008
Desperately needing to find someone and undertaking a national search in order to do so seem like something that only happens in the movies... until you're in a situation where you need to track someone down. There are many reasons that you might need to find someone; perhaps you need alimony or child support, or perhaps they were responsible for an accident but don't want to face legal or financial repercussions. In any case, they need to be found, and one of the best way to so is by searching for them online.

While the traditional method of hiring a private detective is still a viable method, you should think about the fact that the private agency itself will likely start by doing an internet search. Moreover, hiring a person to do a "locate" can be prohibitively expensive, especially if travel fare gets involved.

Now, however, thanks to so many public records and databases being located online and accessible as well, a little bit of searching can bring up exactly who you are looking for. The cost of these online searches is a fraction of what you would pay a private investigator, and even if you don't find what who you were looking for, you can at least eliminate some of the major possibilities. While you can start your search with Google and Yahoo, this is not where you should end it; you need to take your search to private search engines that deal with very specific populations of data.

Start your search by getting good information together. Nothing is useless at this juncture, and while a Social Security Number or a driver's license number mean that you are in excellent shame, don't neglect personal details or affiliations like clubs or organizations. Similarly, if you have a guess as to the person's location, that can help as well. Remember to contact associates for news of the person in question; your search might end there.

When you get online, start with a profile search. This covers your basics as you search by full name, last name and first initial, last name and state and other similar variations. You may get lucky if the name is uncommon, and you might find old friends or relatives of the person you are looking for. If you have a credit card number, do a trace through the credit bureaus, which make it part of their business to find people's current address and phone number

There are also plenty of public databases that you can check. Try the Voter Registration databases, by state if necessary, and also look for records from the Department of Motor Vehicles, the post office and general vehicle registrations. There are even some sites online that can search a number of these databases for you all at once, and though most, if not all of them require a fee, they will also make searching a great deal quicker.

If you need to find someone, do your basic homework and then get online. A few hours search can turn up a wealth of information, so settle in for some work. There's no such thing as a perfect fade and with the internet at your disposal, there's a good chance that you will find exactly who you are looking for.
