Team Building Tactics For Team Winners
By Dominic Donaldson

I agree that a non communicative iron fist has little value in increasing productivity. But many times the activities that teams do to encourage team building only produce actions that an observer would notice and have little to no value when implemented in the wrong environment. Many times team members don't recognize the " highlight hidden skills and undesirable behaviour" because it's what the see everyday. Therefore, there is great value in an "alien" observer (someone who doesn't know what relationships but can help the team debrief). The objective, like you say, is better work and increased productivity. The trick is getting there.
