Non Melanomatous Skin Cancer In Ireland

Many Irish people incorrectly feel that they are only at risk of skin cancer when holidaying abroad. However, the annual National Cancer Registry report details how there were nearly 8,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer in 1997 alone. This means that skin cancer is now the most common form of cancer in Ireland and presently accounts for about a third of all Irish cancers. It is accepted that excessive exposure to direct sunlight is the main risk factor for non-melanoma skin cancer in Ireland.
